Jammu, July 28, 2025 — A shocking hit-and-run incident has rocked Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar area, where an elderly man riding a two-wheeler was critically injured after being struck twice by a Thar SUV. The collision, which took place near Green Belt Park on Sunday, has triggered public outrage and demands for swift justice.

According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the SUV first hit the man while overtaking another vehicle and then deliberately reversed over him before fleeing the scene. The injured man was rushed to the hospital and is currently battling for his life in the ICU with a skull fracture and other critical injuries.

The victim’s family, visibly distressed, has demanded the strictest possible action against the driver.

“Our father was hit twice by the person driving the Thar. Murder charges should be slapped against him. Our father is in the ICU, and doctors have said his condition is very critical. Hit-and-run cases were unheard of in Jammu—this is something we hear happening in Delhi and other metros. We want justice,” said the victim’s son.

Police Respond Swiftly, Attempted Murder Charge Added
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Jammu District Police confirmed the development:

“Following the Thar-scooty collision near Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar on 27.07.2025, Police have invoked Sec 109 BNS after eyewitnesses revealed deliberate intent to harm. The Thar was seized, its owner detained, & hunt is on to nab the absconding driver. Investigation continues.”

Police have seized the SUV, detained the vehicle’s owner and his father for questioning, and filed an FIR. Authorities have invoked Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to attempted murder, based on accounts indicating malicious intent in the second hit.

20-Year-Old Driver on the Run
The accused, reportedly 20 years old, is currently absconding. A manhunt is underway, with police actively tracking his location. Sources suggest the suspect may have fled the city shortly after the incident.

Rising Concern Over Road Safety
This incident has sparked concern among locals, as such deliberate and violent road crimes are rare in Jammu. Social media has been flooded with reactions demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws and harsher penalties for hit-and-run drivers, especially those causing grievous harm.

The police have assured that no leniency will be shown, and efforts are being made to apprehend the driver at the earliest.

Further updates on the case are expected in the coming days.
