Guwahati, August 16, 2025 — Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated the permanent campuses of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Cricket Academy and the Guwahati Town Club (GTC) Football Academy at Uttar Fulung in North Guwahati, in a major push to upgrade the state’s sporting infrastructure.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the Chief Minister said Assam must pair world-class facilities with top coaching if the state is to produce world-class athletes. “If we have to create world class athletes, we have to create world class facilities for them and that’s exactly what we are doing here in Assam,” he said.

Officials said the new campuses will offer modern training infrastructure and district-level access to professional coaching, aligning with the state government’s broader plan to develop talent from the grassroots rather than only building standalone venues. Observers noted the move follows several recent investments in sports academies across Assam.

The inauguration included on-site demonstrations and footage of the Chief Minister interacting with players and trying his hand at cricket, footage of which was shared by news agencies and on social media. State sports administrators described the facilities as a step toward giving young athletes better pathways to national and international competition.

The new ACA and GTC campuses at Uttar Fulung join other recent initiatives — including specialised boxing and football academies — as Assam seeks to expand its talent pipeline and give prospects across districts access to professional-level training and support.
