Guwahati — The Dispur Police Station traffic branch arrested two young riders after they were caught performing dangerous stunts and treating GS Road like a personal racetrack, the Guwahati Traffic Police said in a post on X. Both riders were detained and their bikes were seized, the traffic wing added.

The traffic police released vehicle details and the riders’ identities. The first bike — AS01GK0295 — was being ridden by Md. Mintu Ali (21) of Swaraj Nagar, Dispur. The second — AS01FX7793 — was ridden by Sumar Ali, alias “Raja” (19) of Bormotoria, Dispur; the registered owner is listed as Momtaj Begum of Bilasipara, Dhubri.

Authorities said the stunt riding endangered commuters and pedestrians on one of the city’s busiest arteries. “Legal action initiated,” the traffic wing noted, indicating the riders will face charges under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code. Police also confiscated the vehicles as part of the enforcement action.

Guwahati Traffic Police routinely publish footage and details of such crackdowns to discourage copycat behaviour and social-media stunts that put public safety at risk. The traffic wing has repeatedly urged motorists and youths to avoid reckless driving and follow traffic rules to prevent accidents.

Investigations are ongoing and police said they will take further action if the probe reveals links to organized reckless-driving groups or repeat offences by the suspects. Commuters were warned to report dangerous driving to the traffic police helpline.
