Guwahati, Sept 8: In a major operation against illegal transportation of fertilizer, an East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station intercepted a truck loaded with 560 bags of Urea fertilizer at Nalapara on Sunday night.
According to police sources, the truck (registration number NL01AF0649) was en route from Barpeta to Mizoram and was found carrying “Bharat Urea” bags under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojana (PMBJP). However, the driver failed to produce any valid documents for the consignment.
The truck and the entire consignment have been seized. The driver, identified as Nabajyoti Kalita (37), a resident of Nalbari district, has been apprehended and taken into custody.
Police officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against him for illegal transportation of government-subsidized fertilizer. Investigations are underway to ascertain the source of procurement and the intended recipients of the seized consignment.
Authorities suspect that such illegal diversions of subsidized fertilizers may be linked to black marketing or unauthorized use in other states.
The Guwahati Police have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against such unlawful activities and urged the public to remain vigilant against illegal transportation of essential commodities.
