The Assam Book Fair 2025 began on December 24 at the Khanapara Veterinary College playground in Guwahati, once again underscoring its place as one of Assam’s most awaited cultural gatherings. The 14-day event is being organised by the Publication Board Assam in association with the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association.

This year’s fair features 135 stalls, bringing together publishers from different parts of the country along with a strong representation from Assam. Publishers from Delhi and Haryana, Kolkata, Mumbai and Hyderabad have joined the event, reflecting the fair’s expanding national presence and its growing role in connecting Assamese literature with the wider Indian publishing ecosystem.

The second day of the fair saw a healthy turnout, with readers of all ages thronging the venue to explore and purchase books. Many visitors described the annual fair as a celebration they look forward to each year, calling it a festival rooted in their passion for reading and literature.

Organisers have also planned a series of literary events during the fair. Among the highlights will be a multilingual poets’ meet scheduled for January 3, featuring poets writing in Assamese, Bodo, Karbi, Mising, Nepali and several other Indian languages.

With its blend of regional and national participation, the Assam Book Fair continues to serve as an important platform for literary exchange and cultural engagement in the state.
