A high-level opposition delegation visited Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong on Tuesday to assess the situation following recent violence and to hear directly from affected families and residents.
The team was led by senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and included Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi, CPI(M) leader Manoranjan Talukdar, Congress MLA Sibamoni Bora, John Ingti Kathar, and other legislators.
During the visit, the leaders met the families of the deceased, Suraj Dey and Linouch Fangchu. Family members spoke about their loss, the trauma they continue to endure, and the lingering fear in the area since the clashes. Local residents also shared accounts of insecurity, property damage, and inadequate support in the aftermath of the violence.
Villagers urged the delegation to press for action against those responsible and to ensure justice, compensation, and lasting solutions. The opposition leaders held discussions with residents to understand the roots of the unrest and assured them that their concerns would be raised at appropriate forums. They pledged to push for accountability, relief measures, and restoration of peace, emphasizing the human cost of the clashes and the need for durable resolution.
