Guwahati, Assam: In a continued crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Guwahati Police have arrested one person and recovered suspected brown sugar during a late-night operation in the Beltola area of the city.
According to an official update shared by Guwahati Police on X, a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) under Dispur Police Station intercepted a Swift Dzire car bearing registration number AS01GL2703 at Beltola Survey. During a thorough search of the vehicle, the police recovered two shop cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing a total of 22.15 grams.
The accused has been identified as Sandip Roy (35), a resident of Lichubagan. He was taken into custody at the spot following the recovery.
Police officials confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the accused as per the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized contraband and to identify possible links to larger drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
The Guwahati Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations across the city and urged citizens to cooperate by sharing any information related to illegal drug activities.
