Guwahati, March 28: In a significant breakthrough, Guwahati Police apprehended three suspected criminals during a targeted operation in the city.
According to an official update shared on X (formerly Twitter), a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) acted on specific intelligence inputs and intercepted a Hyundai i20 at Koinadhara.
The operation led to the detention of three individuals identified as:
- Md. Hadayattullah (43)
- Md. Yakub (39)
- Md. Jamir (28)
All three accused are residents of Thoubal district in Manipur.
Police sources revealed that preliminary investigation indicates the trio are habitual offenders, with involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. They had reportedly entered Guwahati with plans to execute a major crime.
During the operation, the police recovered several incriminating items, including:
- One red Hyundai i20 (Chassis No. MALBM51BLKM694933)
- Two fake number plates bearing registration AS-02-Z-6020
- One ignition key
- Three mobile phones
The use of fake number plates suggests a deliberate attempt to evade identification and law enforcement surveillance.
Further investigation is currently underway to uncover the broader network and potential links of the accused within and outside Assam. Police officials have indicated that more arrests and revelations may follow as the probe progresses.
This operation underscores the continued vigilance of Guwahati Police in preventing organized crime and ensuring public safety in the city.
