Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate from the Guwahati Central constituency, Kunki Chowdhury, on Saturday lodged a formal complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Panbazar, alleging the circulation of defamatory videos generated using artificial intelligence during the ongoing election campaign.

In her complaint, Chowdhury stated that several unidentified social media accounts had created and shared manipulated videos portraying her in a misleading manner. She alleged that the content was intended to damage her reputation, dignity, and electoral prospects.

According to the submission, the videos were reportedly fabricated using deepfake technology by altering a public message she had posted on her social media platform earlier this month. She further claimed that the material not only targeted her but also dragged her family members into the controversy, causing distress and harm to their public image.

Chowdhury asserted that the circulation of such content amounts to defamation, identity misuse, and violations under the Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as breaches of electoral norms. She also expressed concern that the manipulated videos could mislead voters and compromise the integrity of the election process.

The AJP candidate has urged authorities to register a case, identify those responsible, and take immediate action to remove or block the objectionable content. She also conveyed her willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide any additional information required.

Police officials have not issued any statement regarding the matter so far.
