In a major anti-drug operation, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station arrested an alleged drug peddler during a raid conducted at Sawkuchi in Guwahati.
According to a post shared by Guwahati Police on X, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal drug trafficking activities in the area.
The accused has been identified as 31-year-old Mintu Rahman, a resident of Rangia. During the raid, police recovered and seized three soap boxes containing suspected heroin with a net weight of approximately 32 grams.
Apart from the narcotics, the police team also seized a scooty bearing registration number AS01AV1918 and one mobile phone believed to be linked to the illegal trade.
Officials stated that the accused was taken into custody on the spot and legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation forms part of the continuing crackdown by Guwahati Police against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the city and adjoining areas. Police sources said further investigation is underway to trace possible links and identify other individuals connected to the network.
