Heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Brahmaputra River have triggered severe erosion at Hatimura under the Kaliabor revenue circle in Nagaon, raising concerns among local residents and authorities.
District Commissioner Devasish Sharma visited the affected site on Thursday to review the situation. During the inspection, he directed concerned departments to immediately begin anti-erosion measures and take all necessary steps to protect nearby areas and residents.
Acting on the instructions, the Water Resources Department started temporary protection works and emergency measures to control the erosion.
At the same time, a team led by DDMA CEO Dipankar Barman carried out inspections in the Raha Revenue Circle to assess flood preparedness and vulnerable locations ahead of the monsoon season.
The team reviewed SDRF-related works at Bhatigaon village and inspected areas affected during the 2022 floods, including embankments and damaged roads. Meetings were also held with village heads to discuss early warning systems, relief camp management and proper distribution of relief materials during emergencies.
