Three Held with 73.73 Grams of Heroin in Guwahati; 16 Persons Sent for Rehabilitation

Guwahati: Three persons were arrested and 60 vials of heroin weighing 73.73 grams were seized during a raid conducted by a team from Basistha Police Station in the Khanapara area of Guwahati, Guwahati Police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the operation was carried out by a team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) following specific inputs about alleged drug-related activities in the area.

The arrested persons have been identified as Dipankar Saikia (23), a resident of Jorhat, and Bhaskar Borah (24) and Rahul Das (33), both residents of Guwahati.

Police said 60 vials containing heroin, weighing a total of 73.73 grams, were recovered from the possession of the accused during the operation. The seized narcotics have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and ascertain whether others are involved in the alleged drug trafficking network.

In addition to the arrests, police rescued 16 persons affected by substance addiction from the location. They were subsequently admitted to a rehabilitation centre for treatment and counselling as part of efforts to support their recovery.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the three accused under the relevant provisions of law. The operation forms part of the ongoing crackdown against narcotics launched by Assam Police and Guwahati Police under the State’s anti-drug campaign.
