Guwahati: In another operation against drug trafficking in the city, the Guwahati Police apprehended two alleged drug peddlers from the Katabari area and seized suspected heroin, cash and a motorcycle during the raid.

The operation was carried out by a team of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) from Gorchuk Police Station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jintu Mandal (35), a resident of Lalganesh, and Azan Ahmed (19), a resident of Barsapara.

During the operation, police recovered nine vials of suspected heroin weighing approximately 10.54 grams. In addition to the narcotics, officers seized ₹5,680 in cash and a motorcycle bearing registration number AS01DS9801, which is believed to have been used by the accused.

Both suspects were taken into custody, and the recovered items have been seized as evidence. Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused under the applicable provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Officials said the investigation will focus on tracing the origin of the seized contraband and identifying any possible links to a wider drug distribution network operating in the region. Further inquiries are underway.

The latest arrests underscore the continuing efforts of the Guwahati Police to combat narcotics-related offences as part of the state’s ongoing #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign, which aims to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the circulation of illegal substances across Assam.
