Guwahati: Commuters travelling to and from Guwahati’s eastern outskirts are likely to experience delays after heavy waterlogging disrupted traffic movement at the 9 Mile and 10 Mile stretches, leading the city police to enforce temporary diversions on the affected route.
The Guwahati Police announced the revised traffic arrangements through an emergency public advisory, stating that the diversions have been implemented with immediate effect to ensure the safety of motorists and reduce congestion in the waterlogged areas.
Under the revised plan, light motor vehicles (LMVs) heading towards Guwahati are being redirected from Digaru, while vehicles travelling out of the city are being diverted at Koinadhara Point. Police have also recommended that commuters leaving Guwahati opt for the Narengi route, which is currently considered a safer alternative.
The affected stretches witnessed significant water accumulation following persistent rainfall, hampering the normal flow of traffic. Authorities have deployed traffic personnel at major junctions to guide motorists through the alternate routes and minimise disruptions.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the temporary traffic measures by following diversion signs and instructions issued by personnel on duty. Commuters have also been advised to factor in additional travel time and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected corridor until conditions improve.
The latest advisory comes as several parts of Guwahati continue to grapple with the impact of monsoon showers, with low-lying areas reporting waterlogging and slower vehicular movement. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and are expected to review the diversions once the water recedes and road conditions return to normal.
