Guwahati, July 28: A tragic incident at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has prompted a police investigation after a third-year engineering student was found dead on the campus on Sunday afternoon.
The student has been identified as Ritesh Raj Singh, a third-year Computer Science and Engineering student residing at the institute’s Brahmaputra Hostel. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 2:30 pm near one of the academic buildings inside the campus.
Police officials said the initial investigation points towards a suspected case of suicide. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the student’s death are yet to be established, and authorities are continuing their inquiry.
Institute sources described Ritesh as a bright student with an outstanding academic record. He had recently secured an internship with Goldman Sachs, reflecting his academic achievements during his time at IIT Guwahati.
