Lumding: A reported tree-felling incident inside a reserved forest area along the Lumding-Diphu road has not only raised concerns about forest protection but also disrupted electricity supply to a large part of Lumding.
The incident reportedly took place during the night near 12 Kilo, within the reserved forest area under the Diphu Forest Division in Karbi Anglong. Unidentified individuals allegedly entered the forest and attempted to cut down and remove valuable trees.
During the reported operation, one of the felled trees came into contact with overhead electricity lines, resulting in damage to the power connection serving Lumding.
The incident caused a sudden power disruption during the night, leaving a substantial portion of the town without electricity.
Repair Work Begins After Power Lines Are Damaged
Following the disruption, electricity department personnel were deployed to the affected area. Repair teams have been working since the early hours to restore the damaged lines connecting Diphu and Lumding.
The incident has drawn attention to the potential consequences of unauthorised activities inside reserved forest areas, particularly when such activities take place close to critical infrastructure.

The reported tree-cutting has also prompted concern among residents, who have questioned the effectiveness of surveillance and protection measures in the forest stretch along the Lumding-Diphu road.
Local people have urged the concerned authorities to investigate the incident, determine who was responsible for the alleged tree felling and take appropriate legal action if the allegations are established.
