GUWAHATI, October 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced the disbursement of financial assistance to students under the state government’s Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes, reaffirming the government’s focus on promoting higher education and supporting young people.

In a post on X, Sarma said more than five lakh students would receive financial assistance every month through the two initiatives. He described the schemes as important measures to strengthen Assam’s higher education system and expand opportunities for students.

Highlighting the impact of the Nijut Moina scheme, the Chief Minister said the initiative had helped increase girls’ enrolment in education and contributed to a reduction in child marriage incidents. The scheme aims to encourage eligible girl students to continue their studies by easing some of the financial challenges associated with education.

Sarma also underlined the role of the Nijut Babu scheme in supporting eligible male students, particularly those from poor and middle-income families. The initiative seeks to help students pursue their academic ambitions by providing financial assistance.

According to the Chief Minister, the two schemes are intended to empower the younger generation by making education more accessible and reducing financial barriers for students.

The Assam government has issued separate implementation guidelines for the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes for 2026 through the Directorate of Higher Education. These initiatives form part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen educational participation and support students from different economic backgrounds.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that continued financial support would help young people pursue their educational goals and contribute to the state’s future development.
