Guwahati, April 4: The All India Gorkha League (AIGL) has announced its unconditional support for Kunki Chowdhury, the official candidate of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and the Asom Sonmilito Morcha, for the upcoming election in the Guwahati Central constituency.
In a formal statement, the organisation said its decision came after a detailed evaluation of all candidates contesting from the seat. The AIGL highlighted Chowdhury’s academic background as a major factor behind the endorsement, noting that she holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from University College London and has academic association with NMIMS Mumbai.
The League also emphasized her youth-oriented political approach, stating that her focus on inclusivity, technology-driven governance, and issues concerning younger voters aligns with the aspirations of a changing electorate.
The AIGL extended its support within the broader framework of the Asom Sonmilito Morcha alliance, which includes the Indian National Congress and Raijor Dal alongside the AJP. The organisation expressed confidence that Chowdhury’s leadership would ensure inclusive development and meaningful representation of diverse communities, including the Gorkha population in Guwahati Central.
The statement also referenced Chowdhury’s lineage, mentioning her mother Sujata Gurung and her connection to prominent figures such as Damber Singh Gurung and Ari Bahadur Gurung.
Urging its members and the wider electorate to support Chowdhury, the AIGL said the endorsement reflects a shared commitment to development, unity, and welfare for all communities in the constituency.
