Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Assam on Sunday night for a two-day visit to inaugurate multiple development, security, and cultural projects, besides addressing a public rally, officials said.
After arriving in Guwahati, Shah will stay overnight at the State Guest House at Koinadhara. On Monday, he will pay homage to the martyrs of the Assam movement against infiltration at the newly built Swahid Smarak Kshetra.
He will then visit Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva, where he will inaugurate a cultural project aimed at restoring the sanctity and heritage of the revered spiritual centre.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has earlier said the state government has freed Batadrava Than from encroachments, describing it as a significant step towards preserving Assam’s cultural legacy.
Returning to Guwahati, Shah will inaugurate the new building of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate along with an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS). The ICCS will monitor over 2,000 CCTV cameras across the city to strengthen security and emergency response.
On the same day, Shah will also inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a 5,000-seat auditorium in Guwahati, where he is scheduled to address a public rally before leaving for New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma, in a post on X, said that Shah would arrive in Guwahati shortly to inaugurate several developmental and heritage projects. He added that the people of Assam are looking forward to welcoming the Union Home Minister to the holy land of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.
