Guwahati/Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the state, stating that his visit would mark significant milestones across Upper Assam in development, governance, and cultural celebration.

In a post on X, Sarma wrote: “Honoured to welcome Adarniya @AmitShah ji at Dibrugarh airport. His visit will mark key milestones across Upper Assam, spanning development, governance, and cultural celebration. We look forward to his guidance and everlasting support for the people of Assam.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks come ahead of Shah’s two-day visit to Assam, beginning Thursday evening, during which the Union Home Minister will roll out several major government projects, lay foundation stones for key infrastructure initiatives, and address a public rally.

According to officials, Amit Shah will arrive at Dibrugarh airport on Thursday evening and stay overnight at Manohari Resort in Upper Assam. During his visit, he is also expected to meet senior BJP leaders and hold discussions on poll strategies in view of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.

On Friday morning, at around 11 am, Shah will lay the foundation stone of the Assam Legislative Assembly’s second complex in Dibrugarh town. The project, estimated to cost Rs 284 crore, will include a new assembly building, an MLA hostel, an 800-capacity auditorium, and a 400-capacity barracks. As per a Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) advertisement, the complex is scheduled for completion within 30 months.

The Union Home Minister will also inaugurate the first phase of a modern multi-disciplinary sports complex in Dibrugarh. This phase, built at a cost of Rs 238 crore, includes an indoor stadium, swimming pool, football field, main gallery, tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts, along with hostels. Shah will additionally lay the foundation stone for the second phase of the project, which involves creating seating capacity for 30,000 people, a central playground, an athletic track, and lifts, at an estimated cost of Rs 209 crore.

Another key initiative during the visit will be the laying of the foundation stone for the Institute of Wildlife Health and Research at Dinjan. The institute is expected to strengthen wildlife research and diagnostics in Assam and support better policy interventions in conservation and animal health.

In addition, Shah will virtually launch multiple projects aimed at the restoration and rejuvenation of wetlands across Assam under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund Scheme. All major programmes in Dibrugarh will be held centrally at Khanikar Parade Ground, where Shah will also address a large public rally after unveiling the projects.

Following the Dibrugarh engagements, the Union Home Minister will travel to Dhemaji district to attend the Takam Mising Porin Kebang Youth Festival as the chief guest, highlighting the cultural dimension of his visit. Later in the evening, he will visit the Assam BJP headquarters in Guwahati to review the political situation in the state with party leaders.

After concluding his Assam tour, Shah is scheduled to depart for West Bengal at around 7 pm. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other senior BJP leaders will accompany him throughout the visit.

This will be Amit Shah’s second visit to Assam after his one-day tour on December 29 last year, during which he inaugurated and launched several development projects. The Assam Assembly elections for 126 constituencies are expected to be held in March–April, adding political significance to the visit alongside its developmental and cultural focus.
