Itanagar, July 18, 2025: The Arunachal Pradesh government has called upon the Centre to honour its earlier assurances regarding the expansion of air connectivity in the state. The appeal comes just ahead of the scheduled inauguration of the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport, Hollongi.
State Civil Aviation Minister Balo Raja, in a recent letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, reminded him of the commitments made during meetings held in New Delhi in March and May this year.
“You had kindly assured us of introducing new flight services to additional southern cities and commencing daily services between Itanagar and Delhi in parallel with the inauguration of the airport’s new terminal,” Raja stated in the letter, a copy of which was shared with the media on Thursday.
Encouraged by the Union Minister’s assurances, the Arunachal Pradesh government had shared the news with the public through local media, raising hopes and anticipation among the citizens, he added.
Highlighting the progress of infrastructure development, Raja mentioned that the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport is almost complete and is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of August.
He urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to act on the earlier promises in the interest of the public. “The people of this easternmost state had long dreamt of robust air connectivity, and that dream began to take shape with the inauguration of Donyi Polo Airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19, 2022,” Raja noted.
He also informed the Union Minister that Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the 3rd North-East Aviation Summit in Itanagar on September 5, 2025 — a matter that had also been discussed in previous meetings.
Reiterating the state’s commitment to enhancing air travel infrastructure, Raja sought continued cooperation and support from the central government to further boost Arunachal’s aviation sector.
