Guwahati, Assam: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced a major infrastructure push for tribal and rural education in the state. Under the Dhartii Aaba Janajatiya Gram Utkarsha Abhiyan, the construction of 209 hostels has officially begun across Assam.

According to the minister’s post on X, the total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹815.10 crore. These hostels aim to provide better residential facilities for students from tribal and rural communities, ensuring improved access to education and learning opportunities.

To assess the progress of the initiative, the minister chaired a review meeting at Samagra Shiksha Assam with all concerned stakeholders. The hostels are being built through the Sixth Schedule Autonomous Councils, Tribal and Scheduled Caste Corporations, and the Assam State Housing Board.

Supervised by Samagra Shiksha Assam, the project is expected to strengthen the educational infrastructure in underserved regions and empower tribal students with better learning environments.
