Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a total of 15 people have been arrested across the state for posting offensive and provocative content on social media after the Delhi blasts.
Sarma stated that while six arrests were made earlier, Assam Police conducted overnight operations and detained nine more individuals. Those arrested include Rafijul Ali from Bongaigaon, Forid Uddin Laskar from Hailakandi, Inamul Islam and Firuj Ahmed (also known as Papon) from Lakhimpur, Shahil Shoman Sikdar (also known as Shahidul Islam) and Rakibul Sultan from Barpeta, Nasim Akram from Hojai, Taslim Ahmed from Kamrup, and Abdur Rohim Mollah (also known as Bappy Hussain) from South Salmara.
According to the Chief Minister, these individuals had posted comments, reactions, or content that allegedly glorified the blasts or promoted violence. He emphasised that such acts pose a serious threat to social harmony and would be dealt with strictly.
Sarma reiterated that Assam Police will remain firm and uncompromising against those who glorify violence or disturb public order through irresponsible use of social media. He added that surveillance and action would continue as part of a broader crackdown on online support for extremist activities.
