Guwahati, August 15, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday marked the 79th Independence Day with a strong pitch for unity, national pride and accelerated development, asserting that sustained support from the Union Government has helped put Assam on a “solid growth trajectory.”
In posts on X, the Chief Minister said he “highlighted the instrumental support of the Union Govt led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in ensuring a solid growth trajectory for Assam in various sectors,” while lauding “our people’s efforts to ensure Assam becomes one of the top 5 States.” He also noted that “the spirit of the tricolour brought people together” as the celebrations in Guwahati unfolded “in an atmosphere of peace and backed by solid progress achieved over the last few years.” Urging citizens to “always uphold the pride of the nation,” Sarma said the occasion reflects both the state’s aspirations and its recent gains.
At the Independence Day ceremony in Guwahati, the Chief Minister’s remarks underscored Assam’s focus on sectoral expansion and social cohesion. While not detailing individual schemes in his social media posts, Sarma framed recent advances as the outcome of close Centre–state coordination paired with public participation. He reiterated his administration’s benchmark of placing Assam among India’s top five states, positioning the target as a collective endeavour tied to improved infrastructure, welfare delivery and opportunities for youth.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the symbolic power of the national flag in uniting communities across Assam during the celebrations. He said the peaceful, enthusiastic participation across the city illustrated the state’s resolve to pair developmental progress with civic harmony and national pride.
