Guwahati, Sept 19: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of celebrated singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Sarma paid a heartfelt tribute, describing Zubeen as one of Assam’s “favourite sons” whose loss has left the state in profound sorrow.
In his message, the Chief Minister wrote, “Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons. I am in a loss of words to describe what Zubeen meant for Assam. He has gone too early, this was not an age to go.”
Remembering the singer’s unparalleled contribution to music and culture, Sarma said Zubeen’s voice had a unique power to connect with people’s hearts and minds. “Zubeen’s voice had an unmatched ability to energise people and his music spoke directly to our minds and souls. He has left a void that will never be filled,” the post read.
The Chief Minister highlighted that future generations would recall Zubeen as a stalwart of Assam’s cultural legacy, inspiring countless young artists through his timeless works. He also recalled Zubeen’s personal warmth and passion for helping others.
“Beyond his music, his connection with people and passion for helping them will always be remembered. I will greatly cherish all my interactions with him,” Sarma added.
Expressing the collective grief of the people, he said, “That magical voice has forever gone silent. Tragic beyond words! I grieve with my fellow citizens on the passing away of Zubeen. Rest well, Zubeen! You will always be Assam’s favourite rockstar.”
