Guwahati, July 7, 2025: In a heart-melting display of compassion and swift action, officials from Kaziranga National Park and the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) rescued a lost elephant calf and successfully reunited it with its mother and herd.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the uplifting story through a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Because everyone deserves motherly affection! 🐘
An elephant calf, which wandered off its herd, was swiftly rescued by Officials of @kaziranga_ & CWRC and reunited it with its mother & herd.
Cuteness overloaded.”

The post has since gone viral, drawing praise from wildlife lovers and citizens alike for the prompt response by forest and wildlife officials.

The incident occurred within the protected zones of Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its efforts in wildlife conservation, especially for elephants and one-horned rhinoceroses. The calf, believed to have strayed during a sudden movement of the herd, was spotted alone and disoriented.

Acting quickly, a joint team of forest guards and CWRC personnel tracked the calf, safely contained it, and worked tirelessly to locate its herd. After hours of careful monitoring and coordination, the calf was gently reunited with its mother in a heartwarming moment that captured the essence of wildlife rescue efforts in Assam.
