Guwahati, Oct 18: The Government of Assam has announced a major reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring and posting more than 30 senior IPS and APS officers to new assignments across districts and specialised units.
The Home (A) Department of Assam issued the transfer order (No. eCF-247067/102) from Janata Bhawan, Dispur, on Friday. The order, approved by the Governor, described the exercise as “in the interest of public service” and aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and accountability.
Among the key appointments, Partha Protim Das, IPS (RR-2018), has been posted as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Cachar. Numal Mahatta, APS, has been transferred to Kokrajhar as SSP. Leena Doley, APS (DR-2002), who earlier served in Dhubri, will now take charge at Sribhumi, while Debasish Borah, APS, has been moved from the 4th Assam Police Battalion to Dhubri.
Other significant reshuffles include Pushpraj Singh, IPS (RR-2014), transferred from Kokrajhar to Karbi Anglong, and Sanjib Kumar Saikia, APS (DR-2004), shifted from Karbi Anglong to Kamrup. Subhrajyoti Bora, IPS (RR-2016), moves from Sivasagar to Jorhat, and Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, IPS (RR-2016), from Tinsukia to Dibrugarh. Shambhavi Mishra, IPS (RR-2019), has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Guwahati.
The notification also brings strategic reassignments within specialised units. Ranjan Bhuyan, IPS, will head the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Criminal Investigation Department, Assam Police as SSP. Amrit Bhuyan, IPS, will take charge of the 21st Assam Police Battalion at Katlichera, Hailakandi.
Officials stated that the extensive reshuffle aims to ensure stronger coordination between district police units and specialised wings such as CID, Special Branch, and Battalions. The realignment is also expected to boost crime prevention efforts, improve operational response, and enhance community engagement in sensitive regions.
The reshuffle spans nearly every part of the state—from Upper Assam to Lower Assam—including Dibrugarh, Majuli, Dhubri, Tamulpur, Biswanath, Dima Hasao, and Kokrajhar. It marks one of the most extensive administrative realignments in recent months.
Senior officials confirmed that the move is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise law enforcement and strengthen internal security amid evolving challenges in crime and intelligence.
All transferred officers have been directed to assume their new responsibilities immediately to ensure a smooth transition of leadership at the district and unit levels.
