Guwahati, July 23: In a continuing crackdown on narcotics under the #WarOnDrugs campaign, the Guwahati Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a substantial quantity of ganja in a targeted operation.
An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Bhangagarh Police Station conducted the operation and arrested 27-year-old Joy Kumar of Ananda Nagar. The arrest took place at Rajib Nagar near Mrityunjay Mandir, a location reportedly flagged for suspicious activity.
According to official sources, the police recovered 21 packets of ganja weighing 175 grams, ₹15,230 in cash, and a Redmi mobile phone from the accused during the operation.
A formal legal procedure has been initiated against Joy Kumar under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Assam Police shared details of the arrest on X (formerly Twitter) late Monday evening, reiterating their commitment to eliminating the drug menace from the state.
The operation is part of Assam Police’s broader anti-drug campaign, which has seen intensified raids, arrests, and public awareness initiatives across the state in recent months.
