Guwahati, July 28, 2025 — In a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar Police have seized 20,000 Yaba tablets, valued at approximately ₹6 crore, during a high-intensity anti-narcotics operation. Two drug peddlers have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the police team in a post on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today.
“@CacharPolice seized 20,000 Yaba tablets worth ₹6 crore in an anti-narcotics operation. 2 peddlers were arrested in this regard. Another strong strike by @assampolice against the drug menace 👊,” he wrote.
The operation is part of the state’s ongoing war on drugs, which has seen numerous successful seizures and arrests over the past year. Yaba, a potent methamphetamine-based drug, is known for its devastating effects and has been a growing concern along trafficking routes in the Northeast.
Officials confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to uncover the broader network involved. The seizure is one of the largest in recent months in the Barak Valley region.
The Chief Minister and senior officials reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking, vowing to continue such operations with increased intensity.
This latest strike reinforces Assam Police’s commitment to dismantling drug syndicates operating in the region and protecting youth from the grip of narcotics.
