Guwahati, July 23: In a significant breakthrough in its ongoing #WarOnDrugs initiative, the Guwahati Police on Monday seized a large consignment of heroin and arrested two suspected drug peddlers during a raid in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, an East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Hatigaon Police Station conducted a swift raid at a suspected hideout located in Gandhi Path, Katabari. During the operation, the police seized 28 soap cases containing heroin, weighing approximately 340 grams.
The two accused — Kashem Ali (30) and Fulchand Ali, both hailing from Dhubri district — were apprehended from the scene. Police sources confirmed that both individuals were actively involved in narcotics trafficking and may be linked to a larger supply network.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and possible distribution chain of the contraband.
The Assam Police shared the details of the seizure and arrests through their official handle on X (formerly Twitter), reaffirming their firm stance against drug trafficking in the state.
This operation marks another milestone in Assam’s aggressive crackdown on illegal drugs, with law enforcement agencies stepping up surveillance and enforcement across both urban and border regions.
