In a landmark step to enhance road safety and citizen convenience, the Assam Transport Department has announced July as “Total Service Month.” The initiative aims to make transport services more accessible while promoting awareness, especially among students and key professional groups.
The month-long campaign will be carried out in Kamrup Metropolitan District under the leadership of Special Duty Officer Gautam Das, focusing on the smooth and inclusive delivery of transport-related services.
One of the key features of the initiative is on-the-spot redressal of transport issues for teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and senior citizens—groups often unable to avail of regular services due to demanding schedules. Services will include assistance with vehicle documentation, tax payments, and license-related formalities.
A major highlight of “Total Service Month” is the launch of free driving training for students, ranging from Higher Secondary pass-outs to postgraduate level, during their academic break. Conducted in partnership with the Honda Safety Driving Education Centre, the training will utilize driving simulators to provide safe, hands-on instruction. Starting July 1, students can report at 9 AM on working days to the District Transport Office (DTO) campus in Betkuchi to enroll.
Despite the availability of 57+ online, touchless transport services, the department acknowledges that a section of the population faces technical or personal barriers in accessing them. To address this, a dedicated team will offer doorstep assistance to eligible individuals upon request, ensuring inclusive service delivery.
In a citizen-first move, the department—guided by the Chief Minister’s vision—has also introduced randomized transport services across districts. This reform allows vehicle owners to avail services such as license renewal, ownership transfer, and documentation updates from any district in Assam, eliminating jurisdictional constraints and further simplifying the process.
“Total Service Month” reflects the state’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people by making essential services more user-friendly, inclusive, and efficient.
