The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday voiced serious concern over the violent incidents reported in the Kheroni and Donkamokam areas of West Karbi Anglong district over the past few days.

In an official statement, State BJP president Dilip Saikia appealed to all sections of society to work together to restore peace and stability in the affected region. He urged residents of West Karbi Anglong, including members of the Karbi community and other communities, to cooperate fully with the administration to maintain law and order.

Emphasising that violence cannot resolve any issue, Saikia called on all stakeholders to engage constructively in the three-party talks proposed by the state government to address the situation through dialogue. He said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is closely monitoring the developments and is taking continuous steps to bring the situation back to normal.

As part of these efforts, Saikia said the Director General of Police Harmeet Singh and State Minister Ranoj Pegu have been deputed to Karbi Anglong to hold discussions with all concerned parties, following the Chief Minister’s directions.

The BJP leader further alleged that anti-Assam and anti-national elements are repeatedly attempting to disturb peace in the state. He appealed to people across communities to remain alert and united against such forces so that Assam’s development and progress are not disrupted. According to him, the recent unrest appears to be part of a deeper conspiracy by certain anti-social elements to destabilise the state.

Saikia also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the unrest over the last three days and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
