Imphal, July 25: In a major crackdown on illicit trade, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Bravo Company of the 143 Battalion, CRPF seized illegal liquor worth approximately ₹1 crore on National Highway 37 near Awangkhul in Manipur.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday based on intelligence inputs, led to the arrest of two smugglers involved in transporting the illegal consignment. The seized liquor and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to Manipur Police for further investigation and legal action.
The 143 CRPF Battalion shared details of the successful operation through its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Assam Rifles & B/143 Bn CRPF seized illegal liquor worth Rs. 1 Cr on NH-37 near Awangkhul, Manipur. 2 smugglers arrested. Consignment handed over to Manipur Police.”
This seizure marks a significant blow to the illegal liquor smuggling network operating along key highway routes in the region. NH-37, a crucial supply route in Manipur, has witnessed increased security checks in light of recent illegal activities.
