Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that Demow and Ranganadi have added fresh momentum to the state’s women-led development journey, with thousands of women receiving financial support under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA).
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated that more than 57,000 women beneficiaries have received ₹10,000 each under the scheme, enabling them to strengthen livelihoods and expand small entrepreneurial activities. He described the initiative as a key driver in helping women convert “small beginnings into big ambitions.”
According to the Chief Minister, the support extended in Demow and Ranganadi reflects the government’s broader commitment to empowering women economically and promoting self-reliance at the grassroots level. The MMUA scheme aims to encourage women to take up income-generating activities by providing initial financial assistance and institutional support.
“The journey of our sisters towards becoming Lakhpati Baideus is moving ahead with confidence,” Sarma said, referring to the state government’s vision of enabling women entrepreneurs to achieve annual incomes of at least ₹1 lakh through sustainable enterprises.
Officials said the MMUA scheme focuses on women associated with self-help groups (SHGs) and local enterprises, helping them invest in agriculture-based activities, small businesses, livestock rearing, handicrafts, and other micro-enterprises. The ₹10,000 assistance is intended to serve as seed capital, allowing beneficiaries to scale up existing activities or start new ventures.
The initiative is part of Assam’s wider women-centric development strategy, which emphasises financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and skill development. Government representatives noted that such targeted support not only improves household incomes but also strengthens local economies and community resilience.
With Demow and Ranganadi joining the growing list of regions benefiting from MMUA, the state government reiterated its resolve to expand the programme further, ensuring that more women across Assam are empowered to become economically independent and confident contributors to the state’s growth story.
