Imphal, Manipur – The iconic IndianOil Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament, made a grand return to Imphal as part of its Trophy Tour and Showcase ahead of the 134th edition of the tournament. The city welcomed the prestigious trophy with pride and celebration, marking its return after a two-year gap.

The Trophy Showcase was held at the City Convention Centre, drawing an esteemed gathering of dignitaries, sports personalities, and football enthusiasts. The event was graced by Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, who attended as the Chief Guest.

The celebration began with a city-wide Trophy Roadshow, generating excitement and bringing together the local football-loving community. The event also honored Manipur’s rising stars in women’s football, featuring eight players from the Manipur Women’s National Team, led by their captain Ngangbam Sweety Devi.

Adding to the pride of the occasion was the presence of Olympic medalist and Indian weightlifting legend Mirabai Chanu, whose participation underscored Manipur’s deep connection with sports excellence.

The return of the Durand Cup to Imphal is seen as a significant moment for football in the Northeast, a region that has consistently produced top-tier talent for Indian football. The 134th edition promises to celebrate this legacy while creating new opportunities for players and fans alike.
