In a major operation against counterfeit currency networks, a joint team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD), Dispur Police Station, and the Special Operations Group (East) carried out a successful follow-up raid at a suspected hideout near Radisson Blu in Jalukbari. The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into a fake Indian currency note (FICN) racket that has raised serious concerns across the region.
During the raid, police apprehended three individuals allegedly involved in the racket. The arrested persons have been identified as Islam Ali alias Sahil from Goreswar, Saiful Islam from Sonapur village in Lakhimpur, and Md. Sahil Ali of Koraibil, Chaygaon. A substantial amount of fake currency was recovered from their possession, amounting to ₹45,66,500, all in ₹500 denomination notes.
Investigating officers also seized a range of suspicious items from the hideout that pointed to potential links with wider criminal activity. Among the recovered items were an electric device, fourteen bottles of tincture iodine, a set of police uniform, several gold-coloured boat-shaped objects, a pack of A4-size paper, three mobile phones, and one bank passbook.
Following this successful operation, police conducted a second raid at the residence of the prime accused, Islam Ali alias Sahil. This led to the discovery of ₹4,60,000 in genuine Indian currency, four more bottles of tincture iodine, six mobile phones, and a cash counting machine, further strengthening the case against the accused and hinting at the larger scale of the operation.
Legal action has been initiated against the trio, and the police have confirmed that further investigations are underway. Authorities are now focusing on tracing possible inter-state or even international links connected to this FICN network. The police have commended the coordinated efforts of the involved units and reiterated their commitment to eliminating counterfeit currency circulation in the state.
