Fake Gold Bar, Counterfeit Notes Seized; Two Arrested in Guwahati Police Operation

Guwahati Police on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized a fake gold bar weighing over one kilogram along with counterfeit currency during a targeted operation in the city.

According to an official update shared by Guwahati Police on X, the action was carried out following specific intelligence inputs. A team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD), attached to Gorchuk Police Station, intercepted a Baleno car bearing registration number AS01SC4552 at Paschim Boragaon.

During the operation, police arrested Bapan Das (27) and Akan Sutradhar (28), both residents of Dalgaon. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery and seizure of a fake gold bar weighing 1.305 kilograms, 100 counterfeit Indian currency notes of ₹500 denomination, and two mobile phones suspected to have been used in the illegal activity.

Police officials stated that the recovery points to a possible racket involving fake gold and counterfeit currency, though further details will emerge after sustained interrogation of the accused. The seized materials have been taken into custody for forensic examination and verification.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the two accused under relevant sections of law. Guwahati Police have indicated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the fake gold bar and counterfeit notes, as well as to identify any additional persons linked to the operation.

Guwahati Police reiterated their commitment to acting on intelligence inputs and taking strict action against organised crime and financial fraud in the city.
