The Election Commission on Tuesday published the final electoral rolls for Assam ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections, reflecting a marginal but statewide revision in voter numbers. Official figures show that more than 2.43 lakh electors were deleted from the draft rolls following the completion of the claims and objections process.
According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, Anurag Goel, the final electoral roll now comprises around 2.49 crore voters. This marks a decline of nearly 0.97 per cent from the draft list released on December 27, 2025, which had recorded about 2.52 crore electors. Election authorities stated that the deletions were carried out strictly as per prescribed procedures during scrutiny and verification.
The updated rolls indicate a near-balanced electorate across the State, with approximately 1.25 crore male voters and 1.24 crore female voters, along with 343 registered third-gender electors.
In line with the statewide trend, Kamrup Metropolitan district has also witnessed a notable reduction in its voter base. Official data shows a net deletion of 25,932 electors across the district’s five Assembly constituencies for SR-2026. The total electorate in Kamrup Metro declined from 10,75,576 in the draft rolls to 10,49,644 in the final rolls, amounting to an overall reduction of 2.47 per cent.
All five constituencies—Dispur, Dimoria (SC), New Guwahati, Guwahati Central and Jalukbari—recorded deletions, indicating a uniform revision during the finalisation process. Dispur Legislative Assembly Constituency reported the highest numerical reduction, with 6,570 voters removed, bringing its electorate down to 2,43,176 from 2,49,746, a decline of 2.70 per cent. Guwahati Central followed with 6,333 deletions, while New Guwahati saw a reduction of 4,569 voters. Dimoria (SC) recorded 4,150 deletions, translating into a 1.91 per cent decline, and Jalukbari registered 4,310 deletions, a 2.09 per cent reduction.
Gender-wise data reveals that deletions in Kamrup Metropolitan were higher among male voters. Across the five constituencies, 15,959 male electors were removed, compared to 9,968 female voters, while the number of third-gender electors remained unchanged at 37. In the final photo electoral rolls, Kamrup Metro has 5,05,429 male voters and 5,44,183 female voters, maintaining a higher female voter base in the district.
The revision exercise also resulted in a reduction in the number of ‘D’ or Doubtful voters. The total count of D-Voters in Kamrup Metropolitan fell from 3,822 in the draft rolls to 3,759 in the final rolls, marking a decrease of 63 voters or 1.68 per cent. Dimoria (SC) recorded the highest numerical drop in this category, with D-Voters declining from 1,765 to 1,734. Officials noted that female D-Voters accounted for a larger share of this reduction.
In contrast, the number of service electors in the district saw a marginal increase. The final rolls show 918 service electors, up from 912 in the draft list, reflecting a net addition of six voters.
Election officials clarified that deletions were made through three established processes—verification of deaths, changes in permanent address, and the removal of repeated or duplicate entries—reiterating that the revision was part of routine electoral roll management ahead of polls.
