An Air India flight (AI-315) arriving from Hong Kong experienced a fire in its auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the airline confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred as passengers were disembarking. The onboard system detected the fire and automatically shut down the APU. All passengers and crew exited the aircraft safely without any injuries, according to the airline.
The aircraft involved—a twin-engine Airbus A321—sustained some damage and has been grounded for inspection. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified and is expected to begin a formal investigation.
This incident adds to the airline’s growing list of safety concerns. Junior Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol informed Parliament on Monday that Air India has received nine safety-related notices in the past six months for five separate violations.
