Gogamukh, Dhemaji: Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday laid the foundation stone for a Multi-Purpose Marketing Centre at Mainapara village in Gogamukh, Dhemaji district, under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). The project, estimated at a cost of ₹1 crore, aims to strengthen market access and economic opportunities for tribal communities in the region.
The foundation-laying ceremony was held in the presence of Shri Parmanand Chayangia, Chief Executive Member of the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), Assam, along with local officials, community representatives, and residents.
According to the minister, the marketing centre is strategically located along the National Highway, ensuring better connectivity and easier access for producers and buyers. Once completed, the facility is expected to serve as a common platform for tribal farmers, local artisans, and self-help groups (SHGs) to market their agricultural produce, handicrafts, and value-added products.
Ranoj Pegu highlighted that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of DAJGUA, which focuses on inclusive development of tribal villages, infrastructure creation, and livelihood enhancement. He stated that the marketing centre would help reduce dependency on middlemen, ensure fair prices, and encourage entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
“The centre will not only support farmers and artisans but will also play a key role in strengthening the rural economy of Gogamukh and surrounding areas,” the minister said. He added that such infrastructure projects are essential for integrating rural and tribal economies with larger markets.
Local stakeholders welcomed the project, expressing hope that the facility would generate employment, promote traditional skills, and improve income stability for families dependent on agriculture and allied activities.
The Multi-Purpose Marketing Centre is expected to become a focal point for rural trade, aggregation, and distribution, contributing to sustainable development and economic self-reliance in the tribal belt of Dhemaji district.
