Guwahati, Aug 12 — The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has called upon traders, trade-license holders, hotels, malls, and commercial establishments to actively participate in the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to mark India’s 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025.
In a public appeal posted on X, the GMC urged all business owners under its jurisdiction to proudly hoist or display the National Flag made from non-single-use-plastic materials at their premises between August 13 and 15. The civic body also encouraged them to gift the Tiranga to underprivileged citizens, ensuring that every home can join the celebrations.
As part of the initiative, GMC requested owners of hotels, malls, and other commercial spaces to illuminate and decorate their premises in the theme of the Tiranga. Decorative lighting, patriotic motifs, and vibrant colours of the national flag should be showcased to enhance the festive spirit and collective pride.
Commissioner Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya, IAS, stated that Independence Day is a moment to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters, reaffirm unity, and commit to building a progressive Assam. “Let Guwahati shine in the colours of our Tiranga,” she said, urging wholehearted participation to make the celebrations memorable and dignified.
The campaign aims to combine the spirit of Swadinta (freedom) and Swacchata (cleanliness) while beautifying Guwahati and strengthening the shared bond of patriotism among its citizens.
