Guwahati Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers, Seize 13.5 kg Ganja in Basistha Raid

Guwahati, Assam: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) from Basistha Police Station conducted a raid at a residential house in the Sangam Path area of Bakrapara and arrested two alleged drug peddlers, Guwahati Police said on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the official statement issued by Guwahati Police, the raid was carried out following credible information about illegal drug activities being operated from the premises. During the operation, police apprehended two individuals identified as Samulya Nama Das (43), a resident of Lakhipur, and Rukya Khatun (39), a resident of Chhaygaon.

During the search, the police team recovered and seized a substantial quantity of contraband. A total of 13.5 kilograms of ganja was confiscated from the accused. In addition to the narcotic substance, two mobile handsets were also seized, which are suspected to have been used in connection with the illegal drug trade.

Police officials confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the arrested individuals under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the seized ganja and to identify any wider network involved in drug trafficking activities in the area.

Guwahati Police reiterated their commitment to combating drug-related crimes and urged citizens to cooperate by sharing information related to narcotics and other illegal activities. The latest operation is part of ongoing efforts by city police to curb drug peddling and ensure public safety across Guwahati.
