Guwahati: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the city, Guwahati Police arrested two individuals and seized significant quantities of heroin during separate operations conducted by the City Police Drug Squad (CPDS/CGPD) under Panbazar Police Station.
According to official posts shared by Guwahati Police on X, the first operation was carried out by a CGPD team of Fancy Bazar Outpost acting on specific intelligence inputs. The team conducted a raid at a suspected hideout near 2 No. Railway Gate and arrested Ali Hussain (20), a resident of Nagaon district. During a search, police recovered five vials of heroin weighing 6.11 grams from his possession. The seized contraband was immediately taken into custody, and legal action was initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the law.
In another operation, carried out a few hours earlier, the CGPD team of Fancy Bazar Outpost under Panbazar Police Station raided a hideout at Ushamati near 3 No. Railway Gate, also based on credible intelligence. During the raid, police arrested Kamal Kalita (30), a resident of Palashbari. From his possession, officers recovered and seized six vials containing heroin weighing 7.10 grams.
Police officials confirmed that in both cases, due procedures were followed during the search and seizure, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested persons. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify any wider network involved in drug trafficking in the area.
Guwahati Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and to taking strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade. The police have also appealed to citizens to share information related to narcotics activities, assuring that such inputs will be handled with confidentiality.
