Guwahati, July 24, 2025: In a swift and successful operation, the Guwahati Police apprehended a 24-year-old man for stealing cartons of liquor from a mini truck parked near Bharat Petrol Pump in the Lalmati area.
According to an official post on X (formerly Twitter) by Guwahati Police, a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) under Basistha Police Station arrested Deep Jyoti Kakoti, a resident of Baikunthapur. The accused was caught in connection with the theft of wine cartons from a mini truck during the night.
- From his possession, police seized:
- One Auto (AS01QC6662)
- 60 bottles of Magic Moments liquor (375 ml)
Following interrogation, the accused led the police to more hidden contraband near the petrol pump, where the team recovered:
- 24 more bottles (375 ml)
- 48 bottles (180 ml)
- 30 bottles (180 ml)
Guwahati Police confirmed that the accused has confessed to the crime. Legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections of the law, and a deeper investigation is underway to determine if others are involved or if the theft is part of a larger network.
The swift action by the Basistha PS team has been appreciated, reflecting the city police’s commitment to maintaining law and order and swiftly addressing property-related crimes.
