Guwahati Police have busted a ganja smuggling racket following a targeted operation conducted by a CGPD team from Noonmati Police Station. The raid was carried out at 2 No. Mathghoria, leading to the recovery of a total of 6.855 kilograms of ganja.
According to police sources, officers first recovered 58 pouches of ganja weighing around 440 grams from the storage compartment of a Honda Dio scooty bearing registration number AS-01-FQ-6702. A subsequent follow-up search at the location resulted in the seizure of additional ganja weighing 6.415 kilograms.
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. They have been identified as Suraj Barman, a resident of 2 No. Mathghoria, and Abhinash Thakuria.
Police also seized the Honda Dio scooty used for transportation, two mobile phones, an ATM card and cash amounting to ₹1,400. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of law.
Guwahati Police said the operation was part of continued efforts to curb drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities in the city.
