Guwahati, Assam: In a decisive crackdown against the illegal liquor trade, the Guwahati Police carried out a successful raid in the Nalapara area under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station, leading to the seizure and destruction of a significant quantity of illicit liquor.

According to an official update shared by Guwahati Police on social media platform X, the operation was conducted by a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD). Acting on specific inputs, the police team raided a suspected hideout in Nalapara, a locality that has previously been under surveillance for illegal activities.

During the raid, the team recovered approximately 250 litres of illicit hooch, a locally brewed alcoholic substance often linked to serious health hazards and unlawful distribution networks. Demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach, the police destroyed the seized liquor on the spot to prevent any possibility of its circulation in the market.

Officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the case. While no immediate details about arrests were disclosed, sources indicated that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the illegal operation.

The action forms part of Guwahati Police’s broader initiative to curb the production and sale of illicit liquor, which poses significant risks to public health and safety. Such drives have been intensified in recent months, especially in areas identified as hotspots for bootlegging activities.

Residents of Nalapara and adjoining areas have welcomed the move, expressing hope that continued vigilance and enforcement will help eliminate illegal liquor networks from their communities.

The Guwahati Police has also urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities related to illicit liquor or other unlawful practices, reinforcing the importance of community participation in maintaining law and order.
