Acting on specific intelligence, Guwahati Police carried out a targeted operation in Khanapara, leading to the rescue of four drug-addicted youths and the arrest of a suspected narcotics peddler.
According to police, a team from Basistha Police Station conducted a search operation in the area and safely rescued the youths, who were later sent to a rehabilitation centre for treatment and counselling.
In a follow-up raid, officers apprehended Rahul Baruah, also known as Prabin (32), a resident of Khanapara in Ri-Bhoi district, described by police as a notorious drug peddler. During the operation, 28.36 grams of heroin, concealed in two tobacco boxes, along with 20 empty plastic vials, were recovered and seized.
Police said legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to trace possible links in the drug supply network.
