Guwahati Police on Friday arrested a man and seized a large consignment of cannabis following a targeted operation near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT).
According to police, a team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) under Azara Police Station acted on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics from the ISBT area. Based on the information, the team set up a naka and intercepted a suspect.
During a search of the suspect’s luggage, police recovered 41 packets of cannabis weighing approximately 40 kg. The contraband was found concealed in two trolley bags and three travel bags.
The accused has been identified as Amit Ram, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. He was taken into custody on the spot.
Police said legal action has been initiated in connection with the seizure, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the narcotics.
