Guwahati, Feb 3: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Guwahati Police seized 360 grams of heroin worth approximately ₹2 crore and arrested two accused during a targeted operation at Ananda Nagar in the city. The crackdown drew praise from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who lauded the police for their swift and decisive action.

Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the operation as a clear demonstration of Assam’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. “SOAP of sin, busted within. Major narcotics crackdown at Ananda Nagar by Guwahati Police; 360 g heroin worth ₹2cr seized, 2 accused arrested. Supply traced to neighbouring State. Swift action, Strong message – zero tolerance,” Sarma posted.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to the recovery of the contraband substance from the possession of the accused. Preliminary investigation revealed that the heroin consignment had been sourced from a neighbouring state, indicating the existence of an inter-state drug supply network. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the trafficking chain.

In response to the Chief Minister’s appreciation, Guwahati Police thanked him for his continued guidance and support, stating that such encouragement reinforces their determination in the ongoing war against drugs. The police reiterated their commitment to swift action, relentless enforcement, and zero tolerance towards drug-related crimes to protect society from the menace of narcotics.

The seizure is part of a sustained drive by Assam Police and Guwahati Police to dismantle drug networks operating in the region. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance, intelligence-led operations, and coordinated action to curb the inflow and distribution of narcotic substances in the state.

Authorities have emphasized that the state government remains firm in its resolve to combat drug trafficking, sending a strong message to offenders that Assam will not tolerate activities that threaten public health and social stability.
