Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched the state’s first tea tourism project under an ambitious scheme to showcase Assam’s rich tea heritage.

The initiative aims to develop dedicated tea tourism infrastructure across the state, highlighting the lush green tea gardens that have shaped Assam’s identity for centuries. The project is also expected to provide additional income opportunities for tea garden communities.

On Friday, Sarma inaugurated the maiden project at the Durrung Tea Estate, marking the beginning of a broader plan to promote tea tourism as a unique cultural and economic experience.

“Come, experience Assam’s lush green tea gardens. We have taken up an ambitious scheme to develop tea tourism infra to showcase Assam’s rich tea heritage and boost earnings for the tea garden community,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X.

The government plans to expand the initiative to several other tea estates, creating new avenues for tourism and livelihoods, while preserving Assam’s globally acclaimed tea legacy.
